Meet Richard

Having lived all of my adult life in SW Calgary, it was an honor to serve you on City Council from 2010 -2017.  After a four year hiatus, I look forward to bringing a re-freshed perspective back to City Hall, contributing 28 years of successful business experience and 13 years of effective public sector community service to maximize economic growth job opportunities.
During the past 4 years, my wife Frances Wright and I successfully started Poot-Wright Consulting Inc.  We specialised in economic development and public engagement, drawing on my experience at Calgary Economic Development as a senior business development manager and at SMED International as a financial analyst, then VP installations.

Our business background also includes having owned and operated 6 PORTS International clothing stores.  While at the City, I had the opportunity to serve on many boards and committees, notably seven years on the Community and Protective Services Standing Policy Committee and as Chair of the Audit Committee. Both positions enabled me to concentrate on resolving your concerns, among them public safety and financial accountability of City operations.

In particular, as Chair of the Audit Committee we supported an even more effective internal audit function which brought forward recommendations for business unit performance improvements on a monthly basis.

The privilege of representing you again beckons because I believe my background and experience has prepared me to meet the rare challenges and opportunities our great city will have in our post-pandemic world.  The results we seek will undoubtedly involve participation and support from both the private and public sectors, involving all of us. With experience working at a senior level in both sectors, I have proven my effectiveness at successfully bringing interested parties together to expand our economy.
